Scientific Calculator
Advanced calculator with trigonometric functions, logarithms, and more.
How to use this calculator
Use the number and operation buttons for arithmetic, or select powers, roots, logarithms, and trigonometric functions. Press = to evaluate, C to remove the last input, and AC to begin a new calculation. Work through a small example before relying on a longer expression.
POWERS AND SQUARE ROOTS
Squaring means multiplying a number by itself: 5² = 5 × 5 = 25. The square root reverses that operation: √81 = 9 because 9 × 9 = 81. A square root gives the nonnegative principal root; solving x² = 81 is a different question, with solutions 9 and −9.
LOGARITHMS EXPLAINED
Log means a base-10 logarithm. Since 10³ = 1,000, log(1,000) = 3. Ln is the natural logarithm, with base e, so ln(1) = 0. For real-number calculations, logarithms require a positive input. The logarithm of zero or a negative number does not have a finite real result.
ANGLES AND ORDER OF OPERATIONS
Degrees and radians are different ways to measure angles: 180° equals π radians. Check the angle convention used by the calculator before interpreting a sine, cosine, or tangent result. A value entered under the wrong convention can look plausible while answering a different question.
Use explicit intermediate steps when the grouping of an expression is uncertain. For example, (2 + 3) × 4 gives 20, while 2 + (3 × 4) gives 14. Compare an unfamiliar function with a known example, retain unrounded intermediate values, and remember that displayed decimal approximations are not exact symbolic proofs.
