Simple Calculator
A modern and responsive calculator for basic arithmetic operations.
How to use this calculator
Enter a number with the buttons and decimal point, choose +, −, ×, or ÷, enter the next number, then press =. Use +/− to change a number’s sign. C removes the last input; AC starts a new calculation.
EVERYDAY WORKED EXAMPLES
For 12 items costing $5 each, calculate 12 × 5 = 60. To add prices of $19.95 and $4.50, calculate 19.95 + 4.50 = 24.45. To split $84 equally among six people, calculate 84 ÷ 6 = 14. These results are amounts in the units you entered; the calculator does not convert currencies or units.
PERCENTAGES WITHOUT CONFUSION
A percentage is a value divided by 100. To find 15% of $80, calculate 80 × 0.15 = 12. The discounted price is 80 − 12 = 68. For a 15% increase, add the $12 instead. Converting the percentage to a decimal makes the intended calculation explicit.
CHECKING A RESULT
Estimate the answer first: 19.95 + 4.50 should be close to 20 + 5, so a result near 25 is reasonable. When a calculation has several stages, use AC between stages and record intermediate results. Avoid rounding money until the final total when practical.
Division by zero is undefined. If the display reports an undefined result, clear the calculation or enter a new number and check the divisor. Very large values and long decimal calculations can be affected by numerical precision; use exact fractions or a suitable specialist tool when exact arithmetic is required.
