Calories Burned Calculator
Estimate how many calories you burn during different physical activities.
How to use this calculator
Enter weight in kilograms or pounds, choose the activity, and enter its duration in minutes. Select Calculate for an estimate of energy used during that session. Enter 30 for half an hour, rather than 0.5; the duration field is in minutes, not hours.
MAKE A USEFUL COMPARISON
To compare walking and jogging, keep the weight and duration the same and change only the activity. To compare session lengths, keep weight and activity unchanged. Changing several inputs at once makes it harder to see why the result changed.
RATE, DURATION, AND ESTIMATED ENERGY
Energy over a session depends on both the rate of energy use and the time spent at that rate. As an arithmetic illustration, a constant 5 kcal per minute for 30 minutes totals 150 kcal. This is not a stated calorie rate for a particular person or activity.
WHY ACTUAL USE CAN DIFFER
Activity-based estimates represent typical conditions rather than a measurement of your session. Pace, incline, resistance, technique, pauses, and individual factors can change actual energy use even when two sessions have the same activity name. A workout device and this calculator may also use different assumptions.
The result describes a session estimate, not your whole day’s energy needs or a guaranteed amount of weight change. Avoid interpreting it as an exact food allowance or using it to prescribe an exercise or eating plan. Recheck units and duration if the value looks surprising. For background on standardized activity intensity, see the Compendium of Physical Activities.
