Lean Body Mass Calculator
Estimate your lean body mass based on your weight, height, and gender.
How to use this calculator
Choose the gender option and unit system, enter weight and height, then select Calculate. This tool uses the Boer formula to estimate lean body mass in kilograms. In Metric mode, enter 70 for 70 kg and 175 for 175 cm; do not enter 1.75 when the height field asks for centimeters.
WHAT LEAN BODY MASS REPRESENTS
Lean body mass is not simply skeletal muscle. The concept includes muscle together with other body components such as water, organs, and bone. A lean-mass estimate therefore cannot tell you how many kilograms of muscle you have gained or lost.
A USEFUL WAY TO UNDERSTAND THE QUANTITY
As an illustrative breakdown, a 70 kg body with 14 kg assigned to fat would have 56 kg remaining. This subtraction explains the idea; it is not a prediction that a 70 kg person has 14 kg of fat. The calculator’s formula estimates a value from height, weight, and its gender category rather than directly measuring those compartments.
COMPARE LIKE WITH LIKE
Keep the same units, equation, and measurement conditions when comparing entries. A formula estimate from this page and a result from a body-composition device can differ because they use different methods and assumptions. Small changes in the result are not proof of a change in muscle tissue.
The estimate is not a diagnosis, a medication-dosing instruction, or a recommended target. Individual body composition can differ from the population relationship represented by the equation. Children, pregnancy, and clinical circumstances need appropriate individual assessment. Recheck surprising inputs and discuss health-related interpretation with a qualified professional.
